Literature Text

You were trapped. Kidnapped. Annexed. Taken over. There were thousands of words to describe your very situation. You starred down at your ankles, bare feet dusted in dirt, with sores around your ankles from the chains that had been placed there. Your upper body was no better, your arms were chained to the walls. The chains were long enough that your arms weren't suspended in the air.

So, thankfully your arms could rest, you wish you could say the same about your wrists. The flesh was red and sore from the chains rubbing against it. Both the flesh of your ankles and wrists have became raw and extremely painful.

You looked around your tiny prison cell. The walls were made of grey, mossy bricks. A large wooden door was situated right in front of you, bars guarding the only slot in the door. There was a tiny window above your head which let in some light. At night you could see the moon and twinkling of the stars, which reminded you of home.

Home. It was such a foreign word now, you haven't seen, or heard about it for several years. A few tears spilled over your eyes as memories flashed through your mind like a horror movie on replay.

You were a relatively large nation, not as big as America or anything, but not small either. Like all other nations, you've had your fair share of wars. The worst one though was with Russia.

It was a bloody war to defend your nation, Russia wanted to become one with you. Or in other words, annex you. Surprisingly you resisted, much to Russia's displeasure. He then proceeded to bomb your nation, causing everything to erupt in flames. You watched in horror as everything around you was eaten by the deadly flames.

The cries and screams of your people entered your ears, you couldn't do anything but walk the ash filled streets and stare in horror. He did this, the horrible monster. Thus started the War of Bloody Snow. The name was appropriate for the sole reason that both you and Russia had countries covered in the fluffy flakes, and the other reason being the blood of both your nations staining the ground forever.

After his bombings on your nation, you retaliated by setting the nations of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia from his control. This angered the large nation, he issued a genocide of your people so he could finally take over the land.

On the horrible day of January 25th, he successfully killed almost half of your population. In the process he also got his precious Baltic States back. He also killed half your soul. He left you alone after the mass killing for a little bit, in hopes of driving you mad.

You indeed went mad, you broke down in the streets amongst the crumpled buildings of the old square of your capital city. You promised you would protect them, save them from the Russian. But instead you failed your people, and in the process lost a part of you.

Tears brimmed your eyes as you recalled the dreadful memory. You shakily got onto your feet and made your way to the door. The chains dragged across the floor, as if you were a ghost in one of the old horror movies. You looked through the bars to see nothing but a dim glow of a torch on a nearby wall.

Russia had finally accomplished want he wanted to do for years, he finally had annexed your country. You still stood your ground, but sadly it wasn't enough, he captured you and threw you in his dungeon.

More tears brimmed your eyes as you remembered a certain blue eyed German, whom you had fallen in love with.

You broke down crying in the middle of the road, you had been walking for days. You wanted to get away from your country for a little while to regain your composure, for you knew Russia would attack very soon.

"Vat is vrong?" You heard a German accented voice ask you. You looked up to see a tall man, with slicked back blonde hair, topped with a green hat. His blue eyes looked at you with concern, he crouched down beside you.

"Sorry. I was just heading back to my nation." You sadly smiled getting up from your spot.

"You're the country that vas fighting Russia, aren't you?" The German questioned.

"Yes, that was me. He's going to come attack again I can feel it in my bones." You stated.

"Vell, I heard vat happened," the German mumbled.

"Yeah, it was pretty gruesome," you sobbed, a tear falling down your cheek.

"You're in no vay, shape or form to fight off Russia again meine Frau." The man said wiping away a stray tear from your cheek.

"I have no allies, no one wants to go against Russia." You sighed, looking down at your feet.

"I vill be your ally," the man smiled.

"R-Really?" you stuttered.

"Ja, I vill protect you and your country. I vill keep you safe und sound." He stated.

"T-Thank you?" you drifted off, unsure of the man's name. You looked up to face the beautiful man again.

"Germany." He smiled.

"Thank you Germany." You cried hugging the man.

"No problem, Frau," he laughed.

More tears filled your eyes as you remembered falling in love with the country. He did keep his promise and fought along side you when Russia attacked again. Both of you ended up falling in love with each other during the many battles.

Your heart broke on the day Russia got the upper hand in the war and captured both you and Germany and took you as his prisoners.

Two years. It had been exactly two years sine Russia had captured and routinely tortured you and Germany. You could hear the shouts and cries of pain from the nation, which broke your heart.

Russia had separated the two of you, putting you into cells beside each other. After the daily torture, Germany would talk to you through the walls always muttering his single promise to you.

"I'll protect you, I vill keep you safe und sound." He would tell you every day. "I can't vait for the day vere I can see you again, hold you again. Properly protect you again." He sobbed, you could just picture the tears pouring down his face. He's been through so much torture and peril because he was your alley.

"I am sorry Germany," you cried grasping onto the cold bricked wall.

"For vat meine Frau?" he questioned.

"You wouldn't be here if you weren't my alley." You confessed.

"I vould rather die than have not known you." The German told you. "One day ve vill be together again."

"One day," you repeated, before crying yourself to sleep. While Germany whispered soft nothings through the walls.

The next morning you were startled awake by the sound of chains and yelling. You jolted awake and quickly ran to the small window on the door, you peered through the hole to see Russia trying to restrain someone.

"_____!" You heard Germany call out to you.

"Germany!" You called back, a face suddenly appeared in front of you. Your eyes meet dazzling blue ones. "What's going on?"

"No time to explain meine Frau," he panted as he quickly planted a kiss on your lips through the window. It was the first kiss you had ever received, it was the first piece of affection the German had shown you.

"Germany, what's going on?" you cried tears falling down your cheeks.

"Ice liebe dich ____," he stated, a tear running down his cheek.

"I love you too," you cried.

"I vill be back to get you. I vill keep you safe und sound." He said before Russia forcefully pulled him away from you.

"No! Germany!" you cried out to him, but it was too late he was already gone.

Your slid down against the door, your chains crashing to the ground. You soft quiet sobs filled the unsteady air.

It had been years since you've last seen the nation. You never did find out what happened to him, you finally convinced yourself that Russia had killed him. You had nightmares of Rodina killing the man you love every night.

You were neither safe nor sound, but you would always try and convince yourself that Germany would come back to get you. For you two shared more than an alliance, but a love. Your heart and souls were connected to each other in a supernatural kind of marriage.

You knew he would keep his promise, he would never abandon you.

"One day," you whispered looking up through the window at the twinkling sky.

Six years. It had been six years since Germany had seen _____. He would cry on a regular basis remembering the torture and pain she went through. Her cries of pain haunted his mind. He had made a promise to keep you safe and sound. He felt like he broke it, for he couldn't keep you safe from Russia.

Germany looked down at the letter again, it was written in Russian. Germany knew what it was saying though, he'd been captive long enough to understand the language. His love, his whole world was dead. Killed by Russia.

"I never kept mein promise meine Frau," Germany softly cried, his tears raining down on to the letter. Causing the ink to bleed and run. "I am so sorry."

You were his everything. That day he'd left, he was told you both were being released. As soon as he found out otherwise he rushed to your cell to see you. Your tear filled eyes still played in his mind.  He wanted to marry you, hold you close, protect you from other nations that tried to annex you.

Except he can't now, you're dead.

"So sorry," he sobbed. "I never kept my promise. I never kept you safe und sound."

Germany's house was filled with his sobs as he tried to regain his composure.
Just a little thing that came to mind, it was originally going to be with Lithuania. But I always wanted to do a story like this with Germany too.

This song has very little to do with the actual song Safe and Sound. It just has a few lines from it. I did indeed make up some of these wars and stuff, so please no hate on that. Sorry Russia is mean! I actually love him! He's only mean in this story.

I do not own Hetalia or it's characters. I do not own the preview picture. I do however own the plot.

So, wait. are we alive and Russia just told Germany we were dead, or did we actually die?
